My Beach Getaway Essentials

So next week is my upcoming trip to the gulf coast in Florida. I’m so excited to be getting away as a family, I can barely sleep. As mum, housekeeper, washer, childminder and chief of stuff no one else wants to do – I am in charge of packing for EVERYONE.  So in an attempt to be organised and not leave everything to the last minute, I’ve got the suitcases out and I’ve started the over complicated process of packing for a family

The easiest place to start was with myself because believe it of not I’m actually a very easy to please, fuss free, travel super light, kind of girl and lets be fair, I know exactly what I want to take, where it is and what I’m going to wear it with, see?  Easy.

While it’s always nice to have a couple of new items to take away, there are a few key pieces in my closet that, over the years, have become vacation staples and I literally couldn’t escape to the beach without them.

Here’s a peak at ‘my pack every year, wear everyday’essentials.

Denim Shorts

I live and die in these on holiday.  Whether I’m on my way to the beach, out sightseeing, shopping or sipping cocktails, you will find me in my denim shorts.  I prefer the turn up kind as opposed to the frayed cut -off look, so when a day out turns into an impromptu night out, I can just throw on a silk camisole and still feel casual but put together.  My shorts are always boyfriend style, worn low and loose. Boyfriend shorts totally eliminate  the ‘how short is too short?’ dilemma for a mother of two and just like all my other loose fit clothing, I prefer their casual effortless vibe.

you can’t beat the original Brazilian flip flop for style, comfort and quality. I have mine in rose gold and they go with everything, look good in almost every situation and even carried me blister free, around the themes parks of Disney World for two weeks last year.  I always get a metal colour because you can even carry them off with a dress on hot balmy evenings and they look so beautiful against tanned feet.

I never take any other brand of sunglasses on holiday with me.  They are classic, go with any occassion and never ever go out of style.  The best bit for me is that James and I now share a pretty amazing unisex RayBan collection so its twice as much fun coordinating our outfits.

The Black Bikini

If you are going to bare all on the beach you can’t do it with more style than in a classic black two piece.  If you are anything like me it’s rare you will ever feel elegant with your body on public display, but a well fitting black bikini is as close to beach-chic as you can get.  Many people see it as boring and favour the prints and the brights to highlight their tan.  But for me, paired with some delicate gold accessories, black swimwear is beach luxe at its very best.

The best ‘everything’ bag.

My black Lonchamp Pliage bag is by far my most favourite ever travel bag.  Not only is it sophisticated enough in style and design for ‘Kate Middleton’ but its the perfect size for carry on making the you look like a seasoned, stylish well accessorized jet setter.

The best bit about this bag, especially when it comes to family travel, is that its durable and completely wipeable, making it the perfect double for a beach bag and nappy/diaper bag. Makes my life so much easier when one bag can work for all the family and I don’t have to look like a bag lady trying to juggle an infant, a beach bag, a baby bag and a handbag all at once.

That’s its!

All my must have items that I pack every time I go away to the beach. What items do you take away with you year after year? Any multi-use favourites I need to know about?

Right!  I should get on and actually pack these things before I forget them!

Take care

Nikki xx
