About

Hello!

My name is Nikki, I’m a 35 year old stay at home mum also known as ‘ActivelyRees’

In May 2015 after a fight to the death with my Spanx, I started a fitness Instagram account.  I desperately wanted to lose my baby weight, so it was to be an online journal and my own personal yet very  public version of a WeightWatchers weigh in.  Instead of jumping on the scales in front of a group of strangers, I was posting a weekly picture of my body, to compare and visually look for progress and change.  I will admit, in the beginning, I posted my pictures publicly to shame myself into accountability.  Not a great start but it was at least a start.  I had no idea what was about to happen, or how quickly my body, my mindset and my life in general was about to change.

The most positive and self affirming thing I have ever done for myself  was downloading Kayla Itsines 12 week BBG (Bikini Body Guide).  Its a step by step, easy to follow guide to getting fit and healthy.  I committed to using it and I used my Instagram to document my workouts and my successes and failures along the way.  What I gained from this was overwhelming. not only did it overhaul my out of shape body, but surprisingly, it built up my  confidence, i found my self esteem and it reset my way of thinking and living.

9 months later I’m still committed to my fitness journey and to an active and healthy lifestyle.  I’m pleased to say my successes with active living and rebuilding my body after baby, have far outweighed the failures.  At the age of 35 this is without doubt, the greatest shape I have ever been in and my best version of living yet!

I’ve met and been inspired by so many of you through @ActivelyRees but I’ve found that my small corner of Instagram moves so fast, it isn’t always easy to answer your questions or address the topics that are most important to you.   This space here, is an extension of that account. Somewhere in which I can pause for a second and we can talk about all the things you want to know.  Whether its about me as a person, me as a mum, working out with a new baby, my eating habits or how I achieve this lifestyle from the comfort of my home, without ever stepping foot in a gym…. Feel free to ask!  I can now answer in a more personal, in depth and stationary space.

To those of you who know me from Insta…Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and @ActivelyRees. If you’re new to me and I’m new to you… hello, welcome and lets chat, i bet we’ve got loads to talk about.

Love Nikki

  3. I have been stalking your Instagram account for over an hour now and am so inspired by you. You look wonderful. I have a question and I haven’t been able to find any answers on Instagram. Does this work for everyone? I just turned 50 and have always been in pretty good shape, however, it seems harder now to lose and I feel so unmotivated. I really feel inspired by your page and to get going and would love to do bbg. Last summer was the first time in my life that I didn’t wear a bikini. I am determined to get back into it this year. HELP!! 😊

  6. Very inspirational. How long after your baby did you start bbg? My 3rd baby is 3 weeks old and I’m breast feeding. I have started on the cross trainer but don’t want to overdo it too soon

  7. Hi Nikki

Wondering if you can offer a bit of help with the sweatwithkayla app? I’ve finally downloaded it after following your journey!! Should I warm up before beginning the circuits? Or are the circuits themselves a warm up ?

    Thanks so much X

  10. Thank you so much for this blog. I really am learning a lot (and am on a similar journey myself). I follow your Instagram progress but to get more of the story behind the pictures is so helpful. Thank you for inspiring others like me that are just beginning SweatwithKayla. I’m on week 2 and am very impressed.

  11. I find your blog really helpful and inspiring. I am on Kayla week 16 (2 babies – 2.5 years and 11 months) and have noticed great progress so far. I have especially loved reading your advice on HIIT at home, fitting in workout around baby, and on protein (I’ve invested in @shesupps muscle range and it is great). There is a lot of cheesiness surrounding fitness accounts online and on Instagram but I find you really genuine and easy to relate to. Thank you

  12. Hi Nikki, I really love your account and find it so inspiring! How did you adapt your diet as you worked through the programme? And did you do the exact amount of LISS/HIIT as suggested by BBG throughout? I’ve started BBG so many times and got bored/stuck after about 4 weeks so would love to know what you’d recommend to help me stick it out!

    Thanks xxx

  14. How tall are you? I’m inspired by you and was reading about your eating… Just trying to figure out if you’re much taller than me (then I may need to adjust my intake).
    Thanks,
